Humming

Sometimes when I’m alone I sing to myself. I suppose I do this when I’m with others as well. Singing decreases the pain receptors from the brain, almost like opening a portal for cures.

I have a good friend who developed a habit in high school of humming when she got nervous. She would hum while crossing the street, waiting for someone, or something, and people thought it was because she’s such a light-hearted gal—is—yet that’s not why she hummed. I took care of a patient last night who had had a stroke. She was having a panic attack due to the confusion and slowed receptors in her brain at the time. I went in and started singing with her, and through her tears popped a smile that made the crows by her eyes shine. She fell asleep humming.

My favorite times to sing is when I’m outside. The endless air and wind that carries sound, movement. I feel comfortable singing outside. Whatever floppy and flouncy noise comes out of my face, I’m outside, and it’s judgment free.

happy christmas, loves <3
