friendship bracelets

When I was growing up, my sister made at least one hundred friendship bracelets every summer. She’d tie them to her water bottle and work on them when we went on road trips to the cabin, to vail, to camp. I would spend hours upon hours just observing her fingers dance with the thread. Yellows and blues greens and pinks, completely separate at their beginning, then entirely intertwined at their completion. She would pass these friendship bracelets out to friends and family and of course her own little wrists developed quite the pile up. I don’t know why this makes me so happy, to think of my little sister creating something she loved to create and was so good at, simply to give them away to people she loved or some she didn’t know. Makes me awful proud.
