Soul fireworks
Dancing water is one of the most miraculous.
When I left Maine some coworkers brought me a cake that said “we love you, mads”. I almost started crying. I realized that this is how people should respond to people: entirely, completely, accepting, and loving. The people I worked with in Vermont made my heart dazzle. On my last night of work they threw me a taco tuesday party. I LOVE tacos. And taco tuesday is a small pleasure that makes me so darn giddy. It was a surprise, or was supposed to be one, but someone blew it the night before, making me laugh. My friend, Leze, said my eyes started sparkling when it was revealed the party was to celebrate me. I know it could be considered a rather small gesture in the grand scheme of things but this was soul fireworks for me.
Knowing people entirely and right away is one of the dopest. I met someone in Maine who I instantly felt this way with. Like I had known him for my entire existence. As if it was silly to think that I had ever gone a day without him in my life. I’m recognizing that you can find this in a lot of places by just being open and extending your heart.
I recently returned from visiting my fave pal in Indonesia. The first night we were in Bali, we walked along the abandoned stone streets in our swimsuits and bare feet, searching for an ocean. And we talked about everything in life. Using words and silence and sighs. Once we found the water we just stood. Walked and stood. Watched and wet our toes. Sunk into the sand. Staring at the stars reflected at the edge of the world. Moments like that bring me face to face with a grand life. One that is steady and still but open and endless. One that reflects the stars as well as the clouds. A dimension that holds everything and nothing.
It is not difficult to make my soul feel like it’s exploding in little sparks all across the sky, accompanied by a dramatic boom or sparkle. Yet I never get tired of the feeling and pray I never do. Being a human among humans is a glorious gift. It is the essence of this life, it’s bread and butter, it’s offered tea on a cold day. Being a human with humans is magnificent.
(happy day, my pal <3)
